To be honest if you follow the descriptions in the road book you donβt need to worry about calculating your distance. Itβs that easy to follow.

The only bit Iβd consider recovering again would be the last 2 legs. For Tilbergbwaite just to be sure on it. And for the 2nd to last leg just to make sure I got the right line over Blea Moss. But last September that was a road anyway.

See you at the start, Dave.
You'll be an hour ahead by the time I'm even at the highest point of Walna Scar pass.

I was thinking that I should recce the last bit, but realised it's likely to be daylight again by the time I get there.
Blea Moss bit is also a recce possibility whilst I'm in Coniston for the marathon thing - thanks for the thought, Dave -wanders off to the map to see what's doable...

In my experience, if you tackle the section from Langdale to the finish during daylight it will be relatively easy navigation-wise even if you're physically and mentally knackered. However, if you're quicker than you imagine it can be tricky at night. Says the guy that went head over heels and lost his GPS and went back later the following week with shears to find it in the bracken.

From Coniston you can do a roughly 10k loop around to Tiberthwaite taking paths and a bit of road. Then do the last leg over the fell.
For the Blea Moss bit, there are probably a couple of places where you come off Blea Moss onto the road where you could run the course backwards to Little Langdale then come back following the route guidance.
When we were there in September last year it looked a bit of a road, but it's handy doing it so that in the dark you know roughly the best line to take.

After Blea Tarn, and I think after crossing a Beck (might be Bleamoss Beck) you get to a rocky outcrop. Turn right, at night I decided to go slightly left and went head over hills.

I'm hoping to get down to recce some of the route at the end of June. Hopefully with my coach of he's fit enough. I just need to recce as much of the route between buttermere and ambleside as possible. Even if only the bits where most likely to make a navigational error.
