STOOSH, probably best to cover the bits you reckon you’ll be doing on the dark. As said before, the instructions are spot on but knowing the best route to take when visibility is limited will be good knowledge to have.

I was going to say something similar Dave. STOOSH you will be in the dark from somewhere around Wasdale (based on your Fling times), so if you need to prioritise it's worth knowing the stretch from Wasdale to Buttermere, it isn't the easiest (either nav wise or for runnability) and there is potential for you being in a part of the field that is pretty spread out by then (e.g. I ran most of that section completely alone 2 years ago). Similarly Buttermere to Braithwaite. Braithwaite to Blencathra centre is pretty straight forward, the turn off the A66 is worth checking but you can do that by car. You will be in the light from at least the Threlkeld area and from there to Dockray is very straight forward. The bit round Gowbarrow is worth a look as again you may well be on your own and there are a couple of places that it's easy to go astray. Then Howtown to Mardale stretch, partly so you know what's coming on that leg. After that it is fairly straight forward (and daylight) and by Kentmere you will have 50 runners coming past to help with direction finding.

Cheers for the info guys - I've been watching the John Kynaston youtube videos so have a little insight to parts of the course but always better to have recced in person as you may spot something that sticks in your mind that you cant through a screen. I'd like to think i should only have 1 night of darkness to contend with but given no races since Oct 19 it's hard to tell just what sort of shape i'm in.

The email from Marc, 10 weeks to go, has raised the old heart rate a bit this morning!
Can't decide whether it's excitement or sheer terror

I better check I have everything on the kit list. I know I'll have to buy leggings as I I've never had to have them before.
10 weeks sounds all to close now but my focus will be arriving on the startline fit rather than my last attempt at the whw race where I'd injured myself 2 days before it 😱

STOOSH it's just dawned on me who your coach probably is (based on your affliation in the 2019 Fling). 😀 If I'm correct you've certainly got a good guide for your recces. I'm sure he'll tell you everything you need to know. Is he racing this year?

Yes flyingfinn - i'm still coached by Neil. He's been out injured for a year but back running again although only recently but still planning to be on the startline come July but whether he races or runs with a friend will depend on what shape he can get in.

That sounds very similar to 2018. Hopefully he'll be there one way or another.

Bit of a random question but after going through the mandatory kit list i discovered i need a pair of running tights. I've never owned or worn a pair in my life and hope i never need to wear them so what brands are the ones to find a decent pair of lightweight ones?
