I really agree about bird dogs Cath. In fact there are several core exercises I personally have problems with - I KNOW they shouldn't be so easy so I'm sure I'm cheating somehow. Dead bugs is another one.

agree I've also fallen foul unintentionally of counting to 10 then not until later realising I only did 5 as it's 1 per sinde! |

Bird dog needs to be done slowly and in a very controlled way. This looks like a more challenging alternative: |

I'm finally back at a weekly Pilates class after taking a 10 month break. Recently I noticed that what core strength I had was starting to diminish, along with some flexibility. Going back to Pilates I can feel I'm now using those core muscles again. Then legs/glutes session in the gym. Gym really busy now on Monday mornings, feels strange after a quiet couple of years. Shades , my Pilates class starts back again next week after the teacher took 3 month’s maternity leave How did you get on with gym afterwards? I think it’s the only way I’m going to slot everything together and am worried that I’ll struggle |

Here's my coach Gemma again - a really good fast 10 minute abs session that doesn't need any equipment AND doesn't involve any crunches or sit-ups. |

Is it a mat class Rosehip? An hour? I think you'll be ok with gym afterwards - when I trained with John Herbert and the jumps group we did quite core-y exercises first, and mobility (perhaps hurdle drills) then a running and jumping session - then weights. Admittedly everyone besides me and John was 25 or younger ... but I'm not and I managed. You need to be retired... but you are now

Rosehip no problem doing gym straight after Pilates. However, on first set of deadlifts I did feel that I'd already been working my back muscles. Next set I was fine. I think the Pilates was a good warm up for the gym. I have done circuits (fairly gentle circuits) before gym and sometimes I did feel like there was no energy left in some muscles. Time wise, it makes sense to do back to back sessions. |

Should have added (cos it's not meant to be a me, me, me) I reckon you are fitter and stronger than you think, Rosehip. Most of us on here are! x |
