We have a doorway pull up bar. Haven't managed to pull off any door frames so far.

(I also still cannot do a pull up. There has been an occasional chin up.)

Just tried pistol squats. It was laughable. Not enough ankle flexibility. Something to work on I guesss.

What Kodo said: Evil Pixie, if you’re limited for space & equipment, you can get immensely strong using body weight, though it can be a slow, tiresome, frustrating journey. All you’d need to start is a floor, an elevated surface and a pull up bar. I have seen my OH get very strong with a body weight programme over the last few years. It's definitely doable. However, my perception of the exercises, and it is a purely personal one, is that I would be more discouraged in trying to do a lot of them, as they seem to be a lot more difficult than those I do which use weights. You can't modify your own body weight (during an exercise session!), but you can start with smaller weights and progress. I find the sense of achievement in lifting actual weights is more, even though my own body weight is more than adequate for the purpose. |

I agree with everyone! But Pix does have reasonable space and equipment. And she's getting some heavier weights at weekend. I reckon whatever decision she makes re purchasing she just needs to decide, buy and go for it with what she's got. As from Sunday! |

Yes, there are various ways of getting stronger and it's easy to waste a lot of time trying to pick the best of a good bunch instead of just getting on with it.

It's good brain gymnastics to be flexible with exercise plans.

Pix, floor press is really good with dumbbells. You have the added issue of having to control them in all planes of movement, and you can start lighter and build up. Ie although it’s technically easier to do floor press than bench, introducing dumbbells makes it harder again. I can still only floor press 30-35kg with dumbbells whereas I can bench press 35-40 (on a good day!)
