is floor press lying on the floor rather than a bench then?
I can't do overhead press with dumbbells as they go up independently so lopsided and floppy!

Nice, DQ :)

Overhead press with dumbbells really found out my lopsidedness a few days ago. I knew my right side was carrying my left side a bit, so it wasn't a big surprise.

Yes just the same as bench press but lying on a mat with bar set lower to start. Think I prefer this to a bench press. I was told to think of pushing your whole body down into floor when lifting, rather than just pushing bar up with just arms and this is easier on the floor.
I'm getting less wobbly with dumbells as my weaker left side seems to be catching up with the right.

Delurking to share this article that was shared with me today: t-nation.com . It reminded me of some talk I saw in here about deadlifts when I was lurking yesterday ;-)

Deadlifts are my absolute favourite :-). I've been out with a bad knee for over a month but was back in the gym for the second time last night, and back to upsetting the boys with my deadlifting skills ;-). The hex bar is the greatest invention ever imo, I can easily lift 30% more on the hex in comparison to a straight bar

Thanks, Luiz :) We discussed trap bars on here years ago, I decided I needed one then and I still haven't got round to buying one.

I love deadlifts too. Floor press is good for lifting heavier weight, as the range is reduced. Then theoretically you can build up to lifting more on a bench press. I was only commenting earlier that I haven’t done bench press at the gym for a few weeks - it’s all been squats and deadlifts. And I really don’t like squats.

Similar to DQ I was feeling tired today, and mentally very much ‘not in the mood’ but I got myself to the gym and did my PT session. Unlike DQ I didn’t set any records, but I always tell myself these are the sessions that count - when you really don’t want to, but do anyway.

I bought one for my garden gym this summer. It was the best thing I've bought after the squat rack, I've increased my maximum lift by 55kg in the last 12 months and it feels like a much more natural lifting position, especially if your boobs get in the way as much as mine do!

I would be happy to increase my maximum lift TO 55kg at the moment.

That's why you need a trap bar ;-)

It might be a generalisation but I've never 'met' a weight lifting woman who DIDN'T like deadlifts. It's more legs and bum than arm and shoulder strength and you don't have the bar digging into your bony shoulders (mine anyway) as in squats which are also mainly lower body.

On the standards chart my Bench is still only (just) novice but I'm a mighty intermediate at deadlifts.
