Great motivator isn't it? We are setting up a Team MEPs challenge for January.

I’m currently 3rd in our gym’s table for November, and pretty much always am in the top 10. Feel free to connect with me. You know name and the gym name now :-)

No option - there never is tbh - but to use the 7 foot plus, 20kg Olympic bar* today for my lifts. I always use it for deadlifts and squats but occasionally try and load a smaller bar for bench. But the smaller, unknown weight bars are too skinny for the plates and I wasn't feeling very explosive so doing loads and loads of fast reps didn't appeal. Had already done high jump, shot put and sprint hills so I DO have an excuse.

I kept to my coach's instructions for Deadlifts: - 4 x 6 reps, but as this is my second session I went heavier than last time and was happy enough with 40kg - 45kg - 50kg -50kg. I weigh more than 50kg at the moment so MUST lift 55 next time for that all important bench mark 'deadlift your weight' (about 52kg I think)

Bloody bench was so hard with the massive bar. Should have been 3 sets of 8-12. Ha ha to that with the 20kg bar. Just managed 3 x 3 superseding with seated row at 25kg 8-8-8 reps.

Also did step ups and box jumps but not the other exercises.

Oh I seem to have written a blog!

*A men's Olympic bar is a metal bar that is 2.2 metres (7.2 ft) long and weighs 20 kilograms (44 lb). The outer ends are 1.96 inches (50 mm) in diameter, while the grip section is 28 millimetres (1.1 in) in diameter, and 1.31 metres (4.3 ft) in length.

What about the women's bar Sharkie? Surely you don't expect me to go away and do my own research?! ;-)

A women's Olympic bar is similar to the men's bar, but is shorter - 2.01 metres (6.6 ft) - and lighter - 15 kilograms (33 lb) - with a smaller grip section diameter (25 millimetres (0.98 in)).

It is RIDICULOUS there is no women's bar at Lee Valley. There are lighter ones but I think they're 10kg or lighter - they feel like nothing after hauling the 20s around the gym.

Yeah, definitely feels like something they should have. The grip makes a difference as well.

I know most gyms will just have the 20kg bar but Lee Valley shouldn't be most gyms really.
