I haven’t been too happy doing deadlifts with a bar so my PT now has me doing them with a 20kg kettlebell. My technique with that is much better. I’ve got 3kg dumbbells at home for arm stuff. I’m wondering whether to go up to 4s (which is what I use in the gym) but not sure there’s much point.

did upper body again today and noted that the last few reps where "focused" on each set
Now, hour + after finishing, I'm aware of achy forearms.

Is this more likely to be technic or am I using too heavier weight?

this is what I did ... I only have 2kg then next is 5kg hence looking at more dumbbells!

3x15 5kg

Biceps
Shoulder shrugs
Side bends

Purple band abductor
1kg legs

2kg
Fly
Lateral raise
Front raise

A few years ago eL Bee! and I would do setting-in for all the main lifts and I'm sure I got a bigger workout from unloading and reloading the bar between sets than from my own lifting.

I use getting all the weights out of the shed and setting up as part of my warm up :-)

So looked at that set of 20Kg dumbbells

It would give me
2.5Kg then 5 then 7.5 then 10

so heavier than I currently have which is good but it still leaves that light void

Instead of going from 2kg to 5kg I would go 2 to 2.5 to 5

which makes me wonder if the set is worth it?

This is why a gym is easier more choice! LOL

Glad your arms are feeling ok now. Can see what you mean about the incremental step ups in weight. I'm no expert but if you change the number of reps you do, would that compensate for the increase. For example, when you increase to 7.5kgs for an exercise start with three sets of 5 reps and gradually build back up to the target number of reps.

Ness makes a very good point. Also you'll never have the perfect seat of equipment all at once - just go for SOMETHING and stop stressing and faffing about it! You're wasting valuable head space. xxxxx

If you can afford it buy the 20 kg set and a pair of 3s OR 4s. Up to you which but just make that decision!
