I wouldn't be able to use our olympic bar for bench press either, Sharkie. Also I have Mr Ness spotting for me for bench presses.

I've just about managed it on odd occasions with the side bars moved up so I can drop it on them and wriggle free if necessary. I know it's not a contest but I think I am the weakest here in the upper body stakes. Even in my late 50s I only got to 22kg I think.

Definitely not a contest and that sounds like a good weight to me. 💪

I'm lucky I've got a gym membership and our garage gym. Most of my workouts have been in the garage lately, as I've not been able to get up to go to gym before work and it's too busy in the evening.

Great lifting going on! 😁

I’m not good at evening workouts as I get older disrupts my sleep even my run commute does
I cancelled gym membership a few months ago
I have a treadmill and turbo so can train inside
I’m retired (for now?) from tri so no need for a pool
The weights is new to me tbh so that’s the only thing I’d use at gym and tbh where I am now and for a good few months I won’t need anything heavier

The only thing is I train alone so no spotter

We won’t move for years and when we do I will have inherited funds to allow a double garage and nice gym set up!

Last night whilst failing to sleep I spent time pondering what to buy!

None the wiser but I will be at Sainsburys so Argos next Saturday and have time to think!

Here's what you need, EvilPixie amazon.co.uk Note that you'll need to order two :-O

I assembled a pair of 3kg dumbbells from our old shafts and plates to check that it would be a worthwhile weight to use. They definitely felt more impactful than the 2kg ones.
