I’m after some crochet advice, dear crafty Fetchies, please. I’m quite new to crochet but have recently made some items that used a variety of stitches and came out well. Feeling confident that I’ve mastered the basics, I decided to make a jumper for winter. I found a pattern for using Super Chunky yarn. It said hook size 9mm and I made a swatch to check tension. It came out too big so I tried with an 8mm hook then settled on 7mm, which is giving the correct size per rows and number of stitches. However, I’ve done most of the jumper front and it’s so rigid, which might be because the hook size is too small for the thickness of the yarn.
Should I: a) continue, as it’s coming out at about the right size and block it to relax the yarn? b) start again with a larger hook but fewer stitches?

Are the instructions in various sizes? If so (and it sounds as though you don't like the rigid feel) I'd stick to a 9mm but make a smaller size, knowing that it will turn out bigger - if you see what I mean. You can use the tension square to gauge which to make.
Failing that I'd switch down the yarn thickness, but then of course you'd have to think of an alternative use for the super chunky.

Thanks for the suggestions, SK. I’m making the smallest size - it’s a baggy fit and the front and back panels are 24” wide each for the S/M pattern.
