Over the years I’ve inherited various pieces of embroidery or lace work from Great Aunts and Aunts. This cloth is simple but one of my favourites… hours and hours of work.

LR that is a lovely wrap, perfect for summer evenings and excellent work from you.

runnyeyes, I grew up with lots of tablecloths like that and wish I still had some. I do have one which Mum gave me as an engagement present; I never use it as I don't want to get it stained.

I know. I’ve got a few embroidered table clothes which now have stains on them ☹️

But it’s nice to get them out the drawers and use them… it’s definitely a dilemma.

I have a linen drawer of Great Aunts' and Nan's handiwork too - they come out occasionally but I'd hate to ruin them.

I still wear a jumper knitted by Great Auntie Margot - when she heard I was emigrating to scotland she got straight onto her needles (the jumper turns 20 this christmas).
Wearing it feels like wearing a hug.

I have a tablecloth which my grandmother crocheted. She made one for each of her granddaughters, intended as wedding presents though she died before any of us was married. I've displayed it occasionally. At the moment I don't have a place for it. I've also got some oddments of hand embroidered work that I couldn't resist taking home from charity shops.

I have a huge tablecloth crocheted by my grandmother. When I was younger I envisaged going into a furniture shop with it, and choosing a dining table based on my tablecloth. It never happened, I don't have a table big enough, but I love the tablecloth. She did one for both her daughters, and for each of the grandchildren. I actually ended up with two, because one was done in gold thread rather than white, and she decided we should all have white.
