Hope this link works for our resident crotchet gang
I’m very tempted to try, but I’m waiting for yarn from Jamiesons of Scotland for a( nother) knitted sweater.

Does the crotchet look tricky on this bag?

That is a lovely bag! It might be a bit fiddly until you get used to it - have you taken a look at the video

? It's simple enough but you need to be OK with hooking down into previous rows, to create the effect. Skip to about minute 12 on the video to see how that's done.

I wanted to make a decent size crocheted triangle shawl. A couple of years ago I did one with a Scheepjes Whirl yarn cake but while it's OK it's not really the size I'd like. So I found this pattern ravelry.com which I hope will be bigger as it's DK on a 5mm hook.

It's supposed to use a Scheepjes Whirligig cake, which is about £70 and I can't justify that so I found an alternative - two smaller cakes which start black on the outside and end up purple in the middle.

To get the colour gradation I want I'm intending to start from the outside of one then the middle of the second one (so it goes black - purple - purple - black). Just hoping that'll work out and I won't end up with tangled yarn to sort out - anyone done anything similar? I used the Whirl from the middle with no problem (once I'd found the end...) but I've never used a big (500m) cake from the outside before.

Should be fine, I’ve pulled whirls from in or out. Of course you could always rewind it before you start.

It's not perfect, and I couldn't work out how to do shells for the edging, so did a triple crotchet edge instead, but I'm quite pleased with my first attempt at crochet.

It's from the book that GimmeMedals recommended a few pages back.

Looks fab, and a good pattern for the variegated yarn.
