An eight-stitch cable is quite strenuous for a tight knitter. One of my favourite stitch sequences is a reversible 16-stitch cable. That'll train out any tendency to squeaky knitting.

(The next pattern I put up will be really simple, knitted flat, and useful. The sort of thing you could yarn-bomb all your rellies with at Christmas and they probably wouldn't mind.)

I've been inspired by all of the hat pictures! Not that I am even close to trying it yet..... *but* I have got my needles back out (on and off knitter since childhood - mainly straight scarves!!! but Mum tried to get me to learn a bit more a few years ago - not touched the knitting bag for about two years.....) and am currently trying to remind myself how to knit and just knitting a straight thing as a practice with different types of stitches on to get the hands and brain to try and connect again......

Arghhhhh see, now I remember why I struggle in here. If I step away for a day or two, I've completely lost the thread of the conversations and can't find where I was and also answering something from days ago seems massively out of context lol.

I'l just sit over here in a tangle of wool and watch.

Please don't forget me if a zoom craft night happens. Pleaseeeeeeee.

I did the cable but wrong by putting 4 stitches on it instead of 8. I have to get some round needles really too.. I’m left handed and it looked like the pattern bit was on the inside 😂 I’m pretty useless tbh but it flew quite well across the room.

🤣

I'm left handed too, but learnt to knit right handed. Last week I tried long tail cast on and had to swap hands as I can't grip the wool with my right hand fingers and I really struggled to mirror the action. I had to keep stopping, doing the action with my right hand and then replicating it with my left hand. It took ages to get it right.

GM I don’t need anymore confusion. It’ll end up being a ‘whatever’ hat / trouser leg/ scarf.
