Very nice Drell. I can manage cables but lace is driving me mildly nuts! I've only done minimal colourwork...Icelandic sweater x 2 in the dim and distant past.

I love doing cables, and like you Garfield, find lace a pita - but usually worth it for the end result!

Lace is fine until the stitch count goes off or you miss a yarnover. The magrathea I did took me ages to 'see' the pattern to be able to know when I was wrong. Though perhaps that was inexperience with lace in general.

I'm finally onto the borders of Teen's blanket. There are progress pics on Rav if you're interested, will save pics here for the big reveal!

I enjoy knitting lace patterns but don't like using fine yarn on big needles. And quite enjoy colourwork and cables :)

Yes, or just forgot the main order of the rows then got a nasty surprise, which meant frogging backwards to fix it.

The Sheep Shop in Cambridge is up for sale :-0
I am so tempted by the idea, but recognise that the reality is long hours, few holidays and very little income

Very much that, HB. Or paying someone else to do the fun stuff in the shop and being a businessperson, and if you were going to do that you could find more profitable retail areas than knitting supplies.

Our LYS closed down. I think the owner is prone to wanderlust; she's been in a couple of different locations since she moved from here.

Our LYS/Singer shop closed last summer, so only have a Hobbycraft at my disposal. Neither shop had much of interest, occasionally the good offer so I've bought most of my stash online.

A couple of my LYS appear to be doing ok, Yarn etc in Harrogate and Knitting Pretty in Knaresborough, the latter has just moved to new premises. While Baa Ram Ewe shut their Harrogate shop fairly quickly and just have one north Leeds now. They all have good social media strategies and BRE has online sales and it's own popular yarn brand (Titus and Dovestone)
The LYS in Tadcaster shut, and runs a blog now, mainly because the lease expired, but it didn't seem busy.

Looking at the ad for the Sheep Shop business I'm not that surprised she's selling it. I reckon it must be close to full time employment (she's certainly there a lot), which means it pays rather less than the minimum wage.
