Genius! Bedsock-style slippers for your dad, with some of that squirty latex on the soles.

bought this 'cos it's a party in a skein!

Sock yarn but is it? What would you do with it?

Also ....

do I keep my lower quality wool (acrylic) and needles (mainly straight apart from 2-3 impulse buy Aldi circulars) or charity shop? If I charity them do I make a "kit" or just donate?

The band should tell you what it is made of, what thickness it is and what the length of the skein is, it looks a bit thick for sock yarn to me. But what do i know. Then you can look at ravelry and see what other people have done with it and what you might do.

Needles to charity shop. Pair up nicely and donate as is. I had call to buy an emergency pair today having only taken 3 of 4 DPNS so I bought some at the nearest charity shop and just moved the section off the straight needle.

Yarn - keep if you think you can make things out of it to donate to charity activities like school fairs, scouts or charity shops. It is worth more to them made up into stuff they can sell. If you can't bear the yarn just give it away and they can decide what to do with it. Our local Age Concern makes tea cosies that are seasonal ideas. They're fab.
