Why not pop in and have a chat with them? I've always found them very helpful. By the way I've had several machines over the years - Singer, Jones, Brother, with various embroidery options etc. My current machine is really simple - the equivalent of the JL110 and it's been a little gem.

Pix - Singer are not the good machines they used to be :-( I bought one and the tension problems were awful. I asked the sewing teacher at work and she recommended Janone (which I bought and am very happy with) or Bernina. I've got a friend who does embroidery and swears by Brother, so there are loads out there. (Except singer ;-) )

My mum has her machine serviced every 12-18mths and it usually costs around £45-50.

I love my Janome, not that I've been doing much sewing recently. Too much other stuff to do, but I have plans. I originally had an IKEA one, which worked well for staring out, but didn't deal with several fabric layers very well.

I am loving how well it is working, and now I've sussed the pattern enough to just use the short instructions, it is progressing very well:-)
