I've had a request for a cupcake hat. I like the swirl ski hat but it involves a seam and picking up stitches. As I am too poorly with man flu to go out tonight I will spend the evening experimenting.

Pix, you could do K1P1 rib. As the scarf won't be stretched the 'ditches' of the rib won't show and it will appear sticking stitch on both sides. Also tedious in one colour, but pick a thicker yarn so it won't take so long!

Just finished 2nd dock for gnome just in time seeing as I take him home in the morning!

Now I have several things to do but what order. Was going to do gnome's scarf but he thinks he won't need it until next winter so maybe not!

For 2016 I want to make a blanket for me made up of knitted patterns and left over yarn! Must master crochet and want to try cables too plus patterns on socks. Oh and try glives/mittens!

I have yarn for 2-3 tops and several socks so must avoid buying more!

Oh and I'd like to try knitting lace too!

Gorgeous shawl.

I've started gnomes 2 colour double thickness scarf after taking him back to uni today - lock-in this technic! I may not do it all in 1 go mind as it is slow going!!

I've finished my January project. Nothing as posh as the ones on here. I've knitted 3 "mug cosies" for friends at work and finished my first Hitchhiker. I also ordered some wool for my second hitchhiker I'm going to have as my February project. :)

If it just says cast on, is there any particular technique it means?

Alternatively, what would people recommend for casting on at the top (ie neck line) of a top down sweater?

And lovely shawl, HB!

I tend to use a long tail cast on for most things, unless I'm told otherwise
