EP I think you always knit the knit stitches and purl the purl ones.
HB could confirm this as she has done some fabulous double knitting

You've undertaken to make a self-colour stocking-stitch scarf, Pix? You love your son more than I love anyone in the world :-O

Yes, you knit the knits and purl the purls, but to be honest, it was tedious enough with a complex pattern to keep me awake, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than do it all in one colour.

I cast off my Icarus - cobweb weight lace - shawl last night. Need to block it this afternoon and pics to follow

You can do it all with one ball by knitting alternate stitches. Cast on normally on two straight needles. (It's a bit more complicated if you need an open ended tube) K1, yarn to front, slip one purlwise yarn back k1 and repeat to end if row. Turn and knit the slipped stitches and slip purlwise the stitches you knitted. Does that make sense?

sucker I think is the word!! Double knit gives the effect I want but I have enough yarn for 1 colour so it'll be double sided .... dark red crofter DK 1 side and a grey the other (also croft dk)
