The Rowalong 5k plan has a good mix of workouts CW, rowing with Mr Rowalong definitely helps you get you through the harder sessions, and makes the slightly more boring sessions less boring... rowalong.com |

Alright. I give up, but the World Beach Sprints races are on YouTube and they're live now if anyone wants to google it rather than following my faulty links!

Thanks, Nellers. I might take a look at that. And thanks for the RowAlong recommendation and link, Muttley and Craggy. That looks like a much more workable plan. And even if I don't follow it to the letter (may not do 5 sessions a week), I think cherry-picking from the plan will be much more effective than trying to follow the previous plan! |

Thanks for the heads up re the beach sprints Nellers! How's your back now? Yeah you could do the 5 sessions over 10 days CW, or whatever suits 👍 |

I generally row every other day and just take the workouts in sequence, it usually takes me two weeks to complete one week of a plan.

Update on the back: Not good but not forever! So the underlying recurring twingy pinging issue reared it's ugly head again Friday before last and, as per the physio, I didn't panic and i just kept on with the mobility stuff he's given me to manage it. However, it developed over a few days into a lack of mobility in my right leg accompanied by a lot of pain. I've been back to see him and also had a video call with the consultant and the diagnosis is not terrible but is disappointing. I've basically done something unspecified which has irritated the nerve path from somewhere in my lower back (around the L2-3-4 discs apparently based on where the pain is) and that's giving me referred pain in my hip and leg. It's not likely to be anything major or permanent that's caused it, particularly given my patchy history. It is an unusually severe flare up, but in the grand scheme of things it's nothing serious. It has, however, meant I've been unable to do any exercise beyond the basic mobility stuff which I'm now able to gently do, and it's been stopping me sleeping well despite a lot of painkillers. I've left the house twice since it happened, both times to go and see the physio. It's starting to get better, though, and I'm happy (!) that the medics know what they're doing and have me on the right path. I'm a bit disappointed that they're telling me it's likely to be 4-6 weeks to a full recovery but relieved that I will recover. And once I do it's back to doing the strengthening stuff to reduce/eliminate the underlying issue. |

Hmmm. As you say, not great but there is light at the end of a long tunnel. Back pain is a bugger to treat and cure. I've had a few back twinges in my time but nothing like this. I can't offer any advice, only tea and sympathy and healing vibes. Keep us posted!

What a (literal) pain, Nellers. Unfortunately these things seem to be in the category of manageable rather than curable - though as you say, the strengthening should make any episodes much less likely.
