Bugger Muttley Cheers, Jef! As a journalist and writer, I would like to make clear that the absence of a comma does not alter the fact that it is an exclamation and not an instruction ![]() |

Mutely - please don’t look at the way I write too closely. It will send you mad 😀 Been a busy few months with holidays, job change and moving daughter into her new house. Been trying to row most days and seem to be in a groove. Recently introduced speed sessions. Must admit the sped sessions kill me. It’s not even fast 🤣. Will read back over the next few days as there are a few pages. |

This is interesting, as someone that's constantly injured running, I started doing weights two months back. Anyway, 2,000m on the rower has been my warm up but I am starting to enjoy it as a thing in its own right. I am trying to build up the courage to do a 2,000m time trial! I will have a read back to get some tips. |

Stiltonman You've built up quote a base over the last few months, mate. Start layering on some speedwork and I think you'll be surprised how quickly you see progress. Hope the new job is going well and Stiltondaughter is settling in well. Foppotee It's a bit addictive isn't it? Give it a go. It's a real test but it's one that you know you're able to finish (not like committing to a marathon or an ultra or something daft like that!) and once you've set a benchmark for 2k you'll want to do the work to be able to beat it. It's a slippery slope. ![]() |

Thanks Nellers. Enjoying the rowing. Speedwork is not my friend yet. Foppotee give it a go. You might be suprised and you then have a benchmark to work from |

Opinions might vary but I'd advise that you build into it slowly, Stiltonman. Maybe drop a session in of tempo work for a couple of weeks, then drop in something a little faster, and so on. Don't go from base build to flat out 250m sprints.

I will do it soon. I do my rows at 6am before the weights room so firstly it's a bit too early to do a max effort and secondly I don't particularly want to lie on a weights bench already drenched in sweat and part ruined! I'll maybe do it on the weekend when I can visit later in the day and have more time. I did do a progression one where I started easy and built it up and did the second 1,000m in just under 3:30 and 7:22 for the 2k. Last 500m was 1:43 so I think I'll aim to do the first 500m in 1:45 and go from there. I find it quite easy to get my heart rate up on the rowing machine so I can imagine it's going to sit quite high given it's only 7 minutes of effort! % of max where do people normally average? |

Those are good running times in your profile, Foppotee. I'm guessing you're usually in the first three finishers? As for the rowing machine, it's an ideal accompaniment to running. Non-impact and especially useful as cross training or maintaining cardio while on the bench running-wise or when the weather is against us. An excellent investment. |
