It was a charity gig and I did it in 20km chunks with a good leg stretch between each. Never ever again if my life depended on it. Craggy the stroke rate you have going there is a real bonus , proper race pace. I don’t think people realise how there are a whole other level of muscles to keep that going. I’m delighted to hold 30/31 and even then my muscles around the groin and hips seriously ache afterwards. |

I can understand why never again 😂 That's a good point Jef, I've looked at my previous 1k TTs and I usually rate around 31, if I rated 31 today I'm pretty sure I'd have been at least 2-3 secs per 500m slower, so I guess being able to hold a higher rate allowed me to go faster! I need to get more power in my stroke, I did a Rowalong 20 x 1 min/1r @r20 the other month which I enjoyed, so will do a few of those in addition to 30r20. |

Glad that’s out the way .. wasn’t feeling it! Takeaways are, harder warm up needed. Need to introduce more intervals and really need to be getting the stroke rate to 31/32 or better. |

Whoop whoop! I'm no mathematician but I think that's beating the 7:39 target. Well done mate, and it will only get better with the extra work you can put in from here.

Thanks Nellers, true. My 4 x 1km ( 1:54.2 ) are usually 1 second slower than 2k TT and the 8 x 500 ( 1:49.8 ) usually 3 seconds faster so I based the attempt off that. I'd say they proved to be quite accurate. .. but cant believe we have to do it again in a couple of weeks !! |

I was at the Truro half marathon this morning and the town's river rowing club had a stand with a couple of ergs. Would I like to try my hand at 250 metres? I said maybe after the race if my legs weren't too wobbly but a little later the heavens opened and by the time I finished they'd packed up and gone ![]() The on the water rowing is gig rowing, which is a big thing round these parts. |

Yeah, happy enough. The goal was just to turn up and bimble round without breaking anything. Plenty of hills (1,400 ft of climb) but not a killer course by Cornwall standards. I finished in the third quarter of the field, which is about right these days. There's a gig rowing club in my town. I might look them up sometime. |

That's a nice improvement again Jef, good work, the training's clearly paying off! Sounds a tough HM Muttley, as I'm sure they all are in Cornwall, well done! Nice one Nellers, are you doing both days? |
