Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Does everyone find threshold sessions the hardest and most exhausting or am I doing something wrong?

It probably depends on your physiology. I've got a diesel engine and chew up threshold sessions for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It's the short sharp reps that make me suffer.

The shorter stuff is hard during but fine after. The longer slower stuff is a bit of a grind but not hard enough to feel terrible (sometimes a bit boring but not physically terrible). It's that middle ground that gets me.

Today was 3 x 8 minutes @ r26 with 4 min rests. I got through it fine but the paces were dropping on each piece and I just sat on the rower for 10 minutes after before I felt up to standing up!

Unfortunately I suspect this is telling me where I need to concentrate my efforts to really get "The Gainz"!

Good point Muttley, seeing 500m pace would be better! I hadn't thought about setting site measurement to KMs but as I don't run any more it would make sense.

Well done Jeff, closing in on that sub 20! I was going to do 5k for The Grid today but didn't fancy it so did a steady 5k followed by 100m TT for the Grid, think I'll do the long distance TT tomorrow - 10k, 60 min or HM 🤔

Well done Nellers, tough session that!

Just when I was beginning to cop some decent metres I trip up when running and bash my left hand. Thumb is painful with reduced mobility and near-zero grip so a few days off is on the cards. The bloodied knee and skinned shoulder don't help either. Rowing and running are off the menu for a few days. Gah.

Unlucky Muttley you've been going well lately, wishing you a fast recovery and hope you're not out too long!

Set up an anaerobic intervals session on the ErgData app to do at lunchtime today. Set up, connected everything and did the programmed 10 minute warm up.

When the first 45 second effort started I realised that I'd set it up for 8 x 45 MINUTES @ r32 or better! Oooops!

Anyway, I did a 45 second burn then stopped and reset things. All a bit messy but it got done.

Another illustration of how I seem to be better at the shorter stuff these days. Average pace for the 7 that got done properly was 1:37.5, which according to the pace guide equates to about a 6:40 2k time! (Spoiler: it bloody well doesn't in my case!) whereas the Threshold session I did at the weekend equates to about 7:30!

So, after a week a gentle 5000 metres this morning. Hand is a bit iffy and hurt as I was assembling the machine and dismantling it but fine during the row. The large and picturesquely ridged scab on the knee reminded me not to overcompress at the catch by twingeing at me every time I did so. Not ready yet for it to fall off :-)

Bugger Muttley I hope the hand and knee recover quickly !

Amazing how safe the rower is BUT we can knacker our rowing by third party injuries!
