Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thank you Jef for that explanation of how drag factor affects rowing. I had long puzzled over it.

Thanks both, I am fairly big but have zero upper body strength, hence me wanting to something else. I did 8:43 for my first go on Tuesday but it was only half way through I realised it was set to 10! Im not a regular gyn goer and am not bothered enough to be massively increasing the time, just want to work on getting fitter other than just running.

Joopsy the rowing stroke consists of 65–75% leg work and 25–35% upper body work .. with with about 20% of that being back.

For the use of overall fitness I'd put the rower on about 5 and practice on making an even row for 20 to 30 mins.

Best all over exercise you can get .. other than maybe VersaClimber or Skierg.

Welcome Joopsy! Like Jef (I'm lightweight) I row with a drag factor of about 120 which is around damper setting 5 on my machine, I tend to move it a bit higher for shorter pieces like 1 minute and 500m, and if I'm coming back from a lay-off 120 feels a bit heavy so i move it down to about 105 and increase it over a couple of weeks. Probably best to experiment and see what feels best for you 👍

Rather warm and sticky here today so the prescribed 25 minutes at UT1-ish pace (as per The Plan) was somewhat, er, sudoriferous :-)
