I have a model C, bought 2nd hand many years ago off a friend who was emigrating. I've hung on to it since after I broke my left forearm my arms don't quite sit parallel and the handle on the D feels a bit awkward. Still works perfectly. It needs a drop of oil on the chain periodically, and the shock cord has got a bit slack now but there's a local guy who can sort that once I get around to it. I've upgraded it with a PM5 (and a C-breeze) for the latest software. That was a 10-minute job and I was able to sell the old monitor for a few quid on eBay. |

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. I'm wondering if just grabbing a new one might be worthwhile, saves having to deal with actual people if I get one secondhand? The good thing about the rower is that Mrs Sloth can happily use it as well and says she's more than happy to as well. I've used one once or twice in a gym many years ago, I wasn't particularly fit at the time and decided to do a 2k challenge on it. It was bloody hard and I thought I was dying by the end. Then I tried to get off the rower and I think I may well have actually died then 🤣 I vaguely remember attempting to leave the gym and get to the locker room which involved several rests where I thought I may pass out/have an aneurysm/die at any second. I'll be a bit more sensible this time, if I decided to get one! |

Sounds like you joined the brotherhood, Sid.😂😂 Getting a new one is a bit more expensive but they hold their value really well so if you want to sell it at any stage you won’t lose that much and it will last forever! I honestly expect mine (bought December 2018) to outlast me. |

It would be an excellent investment. My model C is 20 years old now. The original (PM2?) monitor failed but it was super easy to upgrade to a PM5. It doesn't get as much use as it should so I've not had any issues with the shock cord (or at least I don't think so...). And the customer support if you have any queries is brilliant.

I need something to keep me occupied through the winter (and the current) weather. The Chilterns slop is treacherous which rules out the MTB, running isn't always much better and I can't think of anything worse than joining a gym 😂

The upfront investment is motivation to use it. No point in spending a grand or so on a glorified clothes hanger. Also, Concept2 has a good user community and forum. Other makes probably do as well but to my knowledge C2 is the largest and most active (https://www.c2forum.com/). I bought new. I didn't feel the saving for a used machine was enough. |

Lunchtime UT1 session today of 2 x 15 minutes @ r20. That didn't feel too bad at all actually. Saturday is due to be a 2km retest so I wanted to get this session out of the way today to give me plenty of recovery. |

Ah !! Nellers I was just about to post funding out how the 2km test went as I’ve read back just over a month and couldn’t find it ! I intend to follow you in this endeavour as I’m trying to overcome 2 months of apathy brought on by house renovations. I turned 60 back in July. I’m determined to get back to lightweight and see how close to that 7 minute mark I can get. Interesting reading the plans people are following. I think this task requires a good plan. |

Plan is to 2k on the first Saturday of each month, Jef. Sometimes it's 4 weeks, sometimes 5. Neither really fits with the 3 week cycle of the training plan but hey, I like a bit of chaos. ![]() The plan is definitely important but I thingk there's a lot to be said for putting together something that you can stick to consistently. I'm certainly finding (so far at least) that a plan that I don't get bored with is much more productive than a plan that's perfect on paper. |
