Jeez Nellers, how are you going to manage that? Especially with travel not advised?

We've not got the worst of the heat here in west Cornwall but it's hot enough and the house faces south. Pondering the wisdom of a gentle UT2 session strictly to hr.

We’re going to ignore the advice and travel!

Down to Brighton tomorrow for lunch before the graduation, photos after then in the car and drive north. Hotel booked in Salford for a late check-in (probably after midnight) then up and out for the next one in the morning. Lunch in Salford after then hit the road home.

A bit frantic and not how we’d have planned it ourselves but at least they’re not on the same day and we can be at both.

Got my session done early this morning (2 x 13 minutes @ r20) and it was still 28c by the time I finished!

I'm back! On the plus side, I managed three runs (7, 7 & 13 miles) over four days last week while away on holiday (and still feeling ill - sniffly and coughing, but not *that* virus) with no really bad after-effects.

So my legs had to be well rested, yeah? threw myself back in with the C2 FB monthly challenge group's July challenge: 8x250m with r90s. facebook.com

I convinced myself that I'd take it easy so it would just a chance to try out the waters. And it was quite warm (but with a nice gentle breeze in the shade outside, wafting warm air around). The last three reps were pushing it a bit, but the others were nicely in control.

Ye Gods. And I thought the long haul through deepest darkest Wales to Aber was a trial! Aber, like Penzance, is the town at the end of the line and a long way from anywhere else.

Welcome back Andy! Sounds like a nice sweaty energetic session. Although I don't like the fast stuff I don't mind the short intervals cos they're over and done with quickly :-)

I did my UT2 session and was pleased to come in only marginally slower than the previous one, despite the heat, and with hr strictly monitored. 10000 in one chunk. Was slowing down quite a bit in the final 2000 though.

Managed 3 x 10 minutes ut1 while mrs Nellers was getting her hair done yesterday before we set off.

Yesterday went well if a little warm. Journey was uneventful but long. Got to bed about 2 then up just after 6 to get here for part 2.

Much cooler in Salford today!

Oh also did anyone notice a big ErgData app update which seemed to be mostly bug fixes? It came through on the hotel WiFi. Won’t get a chance to see if it works until tomorrow at the earliest.

Good to see you back Andy!

Well done on fitting in a row before your epic journey(s) Nellers, I reckon you'll sleep for the rest of the week!
My Ergdata updated last night, couldn't see any differences on this morning's row though, they've probably just fixed a few glitches?

Just easy rowing for me so far this week, Tuesdays hottest place on record is just 14 miles down the road, so that was a warm 5k 🥵

I'm making more use of the erg as I slowly rehab the dicky calf. Previously if I did a lot of rowing my shoulders would ache. But having focused on technique and getting a better connection through flatter foot position I now find that I feel it after in the quads and glutes. That, I hope, is a sign that the technique is better.

Also getting better times on the pace intervals. 4 x 800 metres with 2 min recoveries this morning, done as advised at the same pace as 3 x 1000 3 min recoveries done previously. Although I felt the shorter rest and was gasping by the end.

Quads and glutes are where the power should be coming from, Muttley, so working on your technique has allowed that to come through. Possibly your tense shoulders had been restricting that in the past? And that more efficient stroke will show through in the improved paces (along with a bit of fitness from doing a more row-biased training programme).

I got 2 x 15 minutes UT1 done this morning and I've got 2 x 14 minutes UT1 set for tomorrow. That will finish off the first 3 week cycle of my plan. Next week I have some r24-26 stuff set on the plan. Haven't done anything sustained at those rates for a good while so it could get interesting, although the volume will be down to compensate.

And that’s a wrap on week 3 of the plan. Managed to dislodge a contact lens wiping the sweat off after the first 14 minute piece so had to break things up and reset but I got it done.

Too hot in the shed (about 30c by the end!) so I’m feeling a bit drained now.
