Thanks for the support Craggy.
And you were quite right about the 10k. After my Covid booster on Thursday, I had a rest day, and then hit 39:50 yesterday. Ouch, that was a toughie.
Have been reading more about UT2 vs UT1 training which feels like a good excuse for long, gentle rowing this weekend.
I might even go for my first run of the month...

Nice one Andy, when I said you won't be too long before you're sub 2 pace for 10k I was imagining a few weeks rather a few days ๐ช was you always on target or did you bring it under sub 2 pace towards the end? Hope your run went ok if you managed to get out!

Cheers Craggy. Kept it at 1:59:xx throughout. That was quite enough! One of the trickier things was too much dripping sweat and not being able to dry my hands for the last 10/15 minutes. The push towards the end got a few extra seconds.
Doing a parkrun was tough. I think it's been about a month since I last ran and my calves are still aching today. My time was way off what I was used to doing - I hold the prized record for the slowest winning time at my local parkrun - and running over 23 minutes instead of an "easy" sub-20 is humbling. Bloomin' injuries.
Pushed the 2k down by a few seconds yesterday, and did so off a far slower stroke rate, so there's still lots to play around with.

Rowing on my own in the shed I usually have a towel ready next to me, a headband and Pat Cash- style sweatbands to stop the sweat running down my arms and onto the handles. Doesnโt solve the problem completely but it does delay the point where it gets tricky!

Nice going, Andy ... going faster at a slower stroke rate is a particularly good sign.
Sweating is an issue for me too. I run and row with a buff as a sweatband. Otherwise I get sweat in my eyes -- one of the consequences of being a slaphead I guess. For longer sessions on the erg also sweat bands on the wrists as well, to stave off the slipper hand syndrome (have I posted pics of the lumps of skin sloughed off on my handle lately? :-))
Anyhoo, a nice lazy hour at UT2 this morning. Seems easy enough at the time but always leaves me feeling starving hungry after.

Now that's all good advice. As I'm pushing things further and faster, I'm finding all this stuff out. Yesterday I learnt that it's not possible to get a one minute PB straight after a 2k PB. Funny that, who'd have thought?

I'm also a headband and sweatband guy - multiple headbands during 20k sessions ๐
Congrats on the PB Andy. The one min sounds painful - you learnt the hard way there! The correct thing to do after a 2k PB is to drag yourself along the floor to get a cold beer out the fridge!
I completed the 200k Holiday Challenge last night with 3 days to spare ๐

One of my early attempts at a 2k, while I was still using the local gym before I got my own C2, ended with me lying on the floor next to the machine gasping and groaning and having a very nice young lady come over and check if I needed help.
That was embarrassing.
