Hope your back felt ok on today's row Nellers! It's great to see you back running again btw πŸƒ

Well done on the 10k Andy, I remember my first 10k seemed to go on forever! I hope the hammy's aren't too sore today?

I did a nice long distance rate ladder today:
6k@r20, 5k@r22, 4k@r24, 3k@r26, 2k@r28 all with 2 min rests. I found the last 2k very hard, it's a long time since I did anything over 25 s/m!

I then realised I was only 2450m short of 5 million lifetime metres so of course I did a 2450m cool down - free T-shirt ordered 😁 I'm only about 8.5 million metres behind Muttley now 🀣

It's a nice blue long-sleeve for the 5M metres club. Well done on the total and on that session. Sounds like a good one.

Back was pretty much OK this morning. Managed 30 @ r18 without any problems. It felt a little bit twingy a couple of times but nothing drastic or painful. I'll keep taking it easy and

It is nice to be able to mix in some running again.

Nice rowing Craggy & Nellers. Lots to learn from you pros.

Tried something else new today, with hammies not wanting anything long, and arms complaining too. Tried the 1234321 minute intervals which was a good balance with equal time recoveries in between.

Then added a flying 100m since I'd never tried that before (12 long, rapid pulls, trying to rip the handle off - didn't get out of breath, all anaerobic), then a one minute, which saw me fall off the lactic cliff with 15s to go, then a few minutes to cool down.

There's always something new to try. And 25 years ago, it was just a 2k warm-up before weights session, never anything else :-0

Take care of that back, Nellers.

And Craggy, if you keep doing sessions like that you'll overhaul me in no time! Makes me sweat just thinking of it.

Andy -- if you haven't already, take a shufti at the training plan collection (link to the right), loads of ideas there. Ultimately, though, they boil down to sth similar to running plans, the principles are the same.

3 x 12 minutes at 20 spm this morning for me, with 1-min rests just to wipe down and take on some water.

Will look forward to receiving the shirt Nellers it's been dispatched already - excellent service from C2 considering everything is free!
Pleased your back is ok and that you're enjoying your running, I'm slightly envious as I've had to retire from running (at least until I get a new knee in approx 8-10 years 🀣)

Haha Muttley, I much prefer a good 20k session to an all out 2k. That's a good low rate session!

Well done Andy you had a busy night there, have you discovered the C2 rankings? Your 100m and 1 minute are both rankable pieces, along with your 5k and 2k.

Hi all. It’s been a while, don’t ask.

Welcome to a couple of newer members and great rowing by all.

C2 Holiday Challenge under way, but struggling to get the rows in.

Just seen this online if anyone is interested in these things - airtable.com

Will need to check the diary but fancy at least the 500m and the 2k.

Morning all. To my surprise I managed to get a decent run along the coastal path and dunes yesterday, during a lull in Storm Barra. So with legs still slightly shredded from that it was easy UT2 recovery on the erg today -- 2 x 6,000m with hr averaging bang in the middle of the band. With some Pink Floyd in the headphones it made for a gratifying session.

It's been a bit quiet here, so time to share my recent rows. I've been like a very hungry caterpillar and have kept the motivation (and had time) for 5 days in a row. Dear diary...

Sat: 1k warm up, then tried 1500m with 2 minute rests. Ran out of time after 3 sets since we had to go out. Rowing was delayed after parkrun volunteering which ended up being a wasted 27 miles trip since they cancelled it at 9:03am. 😞

Sun: Big target day fir a 30 minute row. 1k warm up, then went for it. Big success after a lot of time hurting - past the 75th centile for MV50s and 200m further than my kne and only other shot at this. Really tough to keep under 2:00/500m, but hung in there.

Mon: A bit tired! 4min warm up (catching virtual fish). Tried a flying 1 minute rep and got a 5m PB, then an easy 2k (darts game), to finish with a daft 100m - 12 Big pulls and 0.3s quicker than the only time I've tried this.

Tues: warmup and then 1234321 intervals, with equal recoveries. Quite like that session since you have time to get into it before the longer 4 minutes push. Managed faster splits on the way back down

Wed: warm up and then a flying 100m. Blew up after 40s, as the target time slipped downwards, but ended up with an extra 1 metre. Woo! Then something new: a 4km with a bit of play. Is this an existing session, or have I done something new...easy 500m, then 10 hard pulls (100m for me), and a recovery trying to match the current average pace. Repeat every 250m. That made the time pass quite well, with a big effort for all of the last 250m. Anyone else tried that?

Thanks for all the help and motivation in this thread. I'll keep trying new things - technique and posture has improved and that's helping.

Good to see you back Sinj! Thanks for the link I might look into entering that in the new year, I need some targets for motivation, shame they don't do lightweight category though. I saw a competition yesterday where the categories are standard & tall (<5'11" & 5'11" and over) I'm well within the standard!

I enjoyed reading your diary Andy, a bit frustrating when they cancel Parkrun at 9.03am 🀬 well done on the 30 mins, I don't think it'll be too long before you're adding 10 mins to that to go sub 2:00 pace for 10k!

I've just been doing easy 5k daily since last week as I felt a bit rough after my Covid booster. Just worked out that I'll reach my 200k Holiday Challenge by continuing with daily 5k's, so that's me sorted until christians πŸ˜‚
