Good luck to anybody doing a 2k tomorrow. I can still remember my last attempt (18 years ago) |

Still carrying the mental scars too, I bet. Mine is on Sunday and totally unrelated to any actual competition. I’m just doing it for ……….fun? Is that the right word? |

Good luck, Nellers! Look forward to hearing how you got on. Yes, I did race yesterday. It was definitely worth doing for the experience, but I’m a bit disappointed in how I performed. I wasn’t at all prepared physically or mentally, and I just got too many things wrong, like going out too hard in the 2K and 500m and then trying to maintain it because I was attempting to race, even though I knew it was too fast and wouldn’t end well! I ground to a halt three times in the 2K but still managed an SB, so I suppose I shouldn’t complain too much about that one! I also did the 100m but reacted way too slowly at the start and don’t have the power to get up to speed quickly. I decided to rerow that one a few minutes later, and managed a PB that time. The results showed that a couple of the others got up to 64s/m on the 100m. I’d no idea that was even possible - I thought I was going to do myself a mischief at a mere 42s/m! If you’re thinking of doing BRIC, I’d recommend trying an online race beforehand, just to practise starting (perhaps not so important on the 2K) and also managing your own racing plan while being aware of what other people are doing. |

I watched some bits and bobs on the stream and saw mention of 60+ rates on the sprints! I don’t see how that doesn’t go against some of Einstein’s laws! Well done. Sounds like you gave it a go and had a bit of fun. I think that’s good advice in trying an online race before BRIC for the experience. |

7:12.6. Hideous! Went out a bit too hot and paid for it, but that’s 8 seconds improvement in 3 weeks and a good learning experience, so no complaints. |

Well done for still competing CW despite feeling you was under prepared! Got to be happy with a SB! If you have a PM5 you can practice race starts on there (Sit ready, Attention, Go). Nice work Nellers looks like you finished strongly and that's a big improvement in only 3 weeks, you're well on target for a sub 7 attempt at BRIC I'd say 💪 Most of my erg training at the moment is focusing on technique for rowing on the water, I went out in an 8+ for the first time today which was really enjoyable. |

Cheers Craggy. I hope I can just continue the progress. I've often wondered what rowing in an 8+ would feel like. When I was young I did a fair bit of kayak racing. Mostly in singles but some doubles and a few times in a 4. Freaked me out how fast we had to rate in a 4 to keep the power on, and I can imagine the same being true in an 8, probably more so. |

I'm sure you'll keep progressing, you've plenty of time! Yeah I wouldn't want to be going full bore in an 8 when the lactic kicks in 😬 we kept the rate down as two of us are newbies but a couple of times we upped the rate and you can feel when the timing is out - it feels a bit like a runaway train. But it felt quite smooth for a first outing, and it's the first time the 8 boat has been out for two years due to Covid etc |

Great stuff everyone. I’ve neglected the rowing a bit to keep the running on track but back on it with a 60min ~ R20. Saw this the other day. How do you use your Erg?! m.youtube.com |
