Tempo-pace (Level 3) session this morning. 6 x 2km with about 90 seconds recoveries. The first 4 felt fine. number 5 was a fight. I was able to kick on in the final one knowing that I was done afterwards and didn't need to save anything.
Great session there Nellers, you did well to get through that 5th rep!
I'm backing off a little as my chestiness/asthma keeps flaring up. It first started in early November a couple of weeks after I moved the Erg indoors, so I'm wondering if exercising indoors is the issue, guess I'll find out when I move outdoors again but it's too cold at the mo π
On the upside I had a little run to test my knee following the cortisone injection 6 weeks ago, no pain but my quads and calves are very achey now lol
Morning. Just an easy 2 x 10 mins to round off week 1 of The Plan.
6 weeks off running, Craggy ... I know how it feels. My reckoning is that it takes twice the time off to regain 90% of what I had, and the same again to claw back that final 10%. My next birthday takes me up an age category
Yes I think you're right there mate you definitely lose fitness a lot faster than you gain it! It's actually 9 months since I last ran, I thought I'd managed to quit back in April but I went to support my partner at the Folksworth 15 on Sunday and I got the urge to run π
Which age cat are you moving into if you don't mind me asking? I'll be 50 next year.
Until Thursday (when I start my new job) I've still got a bit too much time on my hands so, apart from doing an hour of stroke rate sequences this morning, I've been watching a lot of YouTube, and I fell down a hole that started with rowing, then migrated to gym stuff generally then moved on to CrossFit.
Now I've got no plans to get involved with CrossFit personally but some of the youtubers are good fun.
Anyway, rowing on the erg is a staple of crossfit workouts, as I'm sure you know, and all the decent crossfit athletes can knock out a pretty handy 2km.
So there was a crossfit competition in Docklands over the weekend just gone and it featured a rowing event. The twist this time, with the event taking place right next to one of the docks, was that they did actual on the water rowing. It was great!
It really brought it home to me how ever after spending so much time on the erg, I'm not a rower! They were in double sculls with an experienced rower acting as a stabiliser to keep them from falling in, and they all really needed it!
If you're interested it's the first bit of this: https://youtu.be/stizQPCjRJE. And when you watch them wobble up the course bear in mind that most of them would do nearer to 6 minutes than to 7 on the erg.
