It’s always nice when you can outdo brute force and ignorance with a bit of finesse isn’t it? Nice one mate.👍🏻

Thanks for the welcomes!
Hopefully see you both at BRIC CW and Sally Kate! I move up an age group in two years too CW, although looking at the v50 rankings they look just as fast as the v40s 😮
Nice metres Nellers and a good return to the erg Pothunter! 10k in total for me tonight Inc 5 x 1k with 4' rest.

Nellers, I had a "personal issue" similar to yours a while back. I never did get to the, ahem, bottom of it but I suspect sweat and a bit of contact if not chafing by the cheeks was the cause. Anyway, a dab of antichafe before and Sudocrem after did the trick and it went away of its own accord.
And I am afraid there is no refuge in going up an age group. Not for me anyway - as a V50-59 I didn't really mind if V60s beat me but there were a couple of V70s as well. I was chatting to one after a 10k and he was grumbling that he'd done a poor time, at about 43 minutes. Ah well, I become a V60 myself in May. Pah.

That’s the way I’ve been dealing with it Muttley, but it keeps coming back. I’m wondering if my arse just isn’t cut out for this game. (Not really but I could do withou arse blisters!)

Rowing is better for your knees than running but it certainly ain't better for your backside, hope you heel soon Nellers!
There's always that bit of extra motivation when you move into a new age group Muttley, it's usually short lived though lol
10k today including a 2k at r26. Happy with 1:48.8 pace as my free rate is usually around r33.

It’s all settled down already. Just annoying that it keeps happening.
Went to a little gym in Leicester to do some metres today. Got less than i’d Planned done but it’s better than nothing. 10x 500m/1 min recoveries. All were under 2 mins. Gyms really don’t look after their concept2s do they? One was just not working at all. The other, which I used, gave me a drag factor of 65 with the fan up to 10.
Did a bit if biking too to make it worth the trip.

Nice session, Craggy!
I think you’re right about there being no refuge in the next age group up, Muttley - some of the performances are scarily fast! - but I’m hoping that I’ll be tougher on myself if I don’t make excuses about being one of the oldest in the group!

A rookie question about stroke rate / stroke length: I’m reintroducing intervals and need to push myself harder on them as my s/r isn’t much higher than it is on steady rows and I’m recovering quite quickly. When I increase the s/r, though, my stroke length reduces. Should I aim to keep the stroke length the same and just shorten the recovery phase to fit in more strokes per minute, or should I expect the stroke length to fall away as stroke rate increases?
I’m trying to work out what s/r to aim for on faster pieces but am not sure whether I should focus mainly on the pace or on keeping stroke length the same to try to maximise efficiency. What does everyone else do?

Craggy - 2k at 1:48.8 pace is cracking, especially as it was during a 10k.

CW - no idea about stroke length but for intervals I try just to keep moving as fast as possible in terms of stroke rate (which mean 28-30 for shortish intervals, for me) - my key metric is heart rate for those, i.e. getting it nice and high.
