Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

How was your run today?

I keep greeting people that is out and about and runners of course, I don’t care if they think I’m crazy. Maybe they will learn to be nice and recognize other people too in the end :)

I do exactly the same! After a while people do actually start to recognize me, rein in their dogs as I pass, etc. Even the rare (for Norway) few down-and-outs that hang out under a bridge on a river boardwalk start to greet me before I see them, sometimes. Really, I should be posting every day on the «things that made me smile today» thread.

Running at night, I rarely see anyone at all - but Liverpool has a high proportion of people who will simply strike up a conversation in a shop, a bus queue or a station platform. I'm happy to adopt this friendliness.

9.45pm Fresh ESE breeze; clear skies, moon & stars clearly visible. Coastal park, docks, then 2 miles along the beach before returning to trails, prom and cycle path. 65 min.

It sure is UltraDunc :)
I did run in a big city a while ago, and after a while I actually stopped greeting runners, I think I met 20 people and ran past about the same, at 06 six in the morning 😱 and every one I greeted look at me like I was insane 🤣

I’m such a hillbilly. (What do you call that in British English?)

swittle & NordRunner

It’s so nice to get “well done” “looking strong” or even just a proper greeting for sure.

A few days ago I got a thumbs up out a window of a van. Nice people :)

I don't get compliments like that, I'm not fast enough! I do sometimes hear a word [sprek] related to sprightly, which has associations in english of being good considering you're old that it doesn't have in the local language, but I'm getting used to that :)

I've always said hello to everyone, on the basis that they might be someone who knows me in another setting. This was relevant both in the grotty part of Birmingham where I used to live and the everyone-knows-everyone's-business place I live now.

I saw no one yesterday at an even earlier time than the day before. Found it very mild and was slightly sweaty after an hour at super easy pace .
