Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Big Country now totally cancelled, for Nuneaton at least :-(

Next gig will be bdrmm in March, then Dot to Dot festival (Nottingham leg) at the end of May, for which lots of research is needed to plan my itinerary. Definitely want to see the Horrors and White Flowers at that so they better not clash.

OK, so it was blooming expensive, the O2 is a pain to get to and from, our seats weren't the best and he's 82 years old!

However I can't think of many 3 hours of my life that were better than those spent in the company of Paul McCartney last night. Great band with him, spectacular production and for a long-time fan, so many genuinely moving moments.

I guy I used to work with is a really big McCartney fan, and has seen him several times over the last many years, each time saying "it might be the last tour, I have to go!" And each time he says it's been a fantastic show, McCartney can't quite sing like he used to but he's still pretty ace, and the band of course are fabulous. And even for someone like me who's not that fussed by much of his back catalogue, there's plenty of great songs! Sounds like it was worth the effort :)

I’m just watching the Eight Days a Week documentary (Ron Howard), such a phenomenon.

Took my son to a covers ban gig in Reading - classic metal and Metallica (Moretallica) They were both vey good, and my son enjoyed it a lot. Next up for me is seeing a couple of friends in their resurrected band Carp in Bognor. Punk/New Wave, which is a bit more my thing.

That’s an easy list to write, @z1000jeff, as I only got to 5 gigs this year! But in order probably:
1. The The (Sentrum Scene, Oslo)
2. Underworld (Sentrum Scene, Oslo)
3. Joy Division Undercover (Podium Victorie, Alkmaar, Netherlands)
4. Toto (Fredriksten Fortess, Halden, Norway) - surprisingly good live
5. Drop Kick Murphys (Fredriksten Fortress, Halden, Norway)

Hoping to see Hayseed Dixie, Meute, Orbital, Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew, and some comedians (Peter Kay, Jimmy Carr, John Cleese and Ramesh Ranganathan) next year.

I've had a pretty good gig year, adding it up there were 37 gigs, mostly in London but also hanging out in Bristol and Southampton semi regularly. Top 5 is tough...but let's go for:

1. Sprints (Heaven, London) - really like their album and this was a riot, so much energy and they were so happy to be playing what was a big gig for them at the time
2. Los Campesinos! (SWX, Bristol) - hadn't seen these for several years, and they were very much on form, excellent new album tracks plus plenty of classics and a beautiful crowd
3. Loyle Carner (All Points East festival) - in which he proves he can own a big outdoor stage (and bonus points for Ezra Collective earlier in the day)
4. Godspeed You! Black Emporer (Troxy) - seriously loud, uncompromising instrumental post-rock, they are such a force live

5. English Teacher (Shepherds Bush Empire) - really love their Mercury-prize winning album, and they deliver live too
