First gig of the year for me last night, billed as "Everything All Of The Time: Kid A Revisited" at the Jazz Cafe in Camden. This was the Radiohead album redone by an all-star jazz band. There is a not unreasonable argument that Kid A doesn't have that many tunes on it in the first place, so some jazz types parping and honking around it is not going to improve matters. And some of it was a bit like that, I did complain that my gig buddy had dragged me up to London on a Monday night to see not one, but two drum solos, as well as a bass solo, and there were times when the piano player was just showing off (which is, I think, pretty much the point of jazz, isn't it?) and the two sax players were just taking it in turns to be noisy, but there were also times when the band got into a bit of a groove and it was all rather lovely.
