Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Final gig of the year for me last night, Grace Petrie at The Joiners in Southampton. I love her lots, she mixes pop and politics in a Billy Bragg for the 21st century style, her recent album is excellent, and last night was a full band show which really made for a full sound, dare I say it more rock than folk. It's also hugely life affirming to be in a room full of people who share a lot of your politics and despair at the state of the country and world!

Love Grace Petrie too Joe, a wonderful performer and lyricist.

Black tie could have been written for my eldest kid!

In among the millions of songs out there, there are a mere handful which invariably make me cry, and she wrote three of them. I'm not sure anyone else has more than two, and I mean this entirely as a compliment. Black Tie is one of them, and one of the reasons it hits hard is because it could easily have been about my son, so I get where you're coming from, @Joopsy

Not sure it quite counts as a gig, and apologies to all Michael Buble fans on here, but I had the misfortune to be dragged along to "Buble Christmas by Candelight" on Saturday night in Edinburgh.

TripletMum was taking one of her friends, a big Michael Buble fan, as a Xmas treat but her friend was ill and she didn't want to go by herself so I went along to keep her company.

That's 2 hours of my life I'm not getting back.
