Favourite local venue is the Sage Gateshead - the big silver building on the other side of the river. It’s built for all the orchestral classical stuff which can put people off. But it hosts all kinds of music from pop to folk and world music. It’s about as far from sticky carpets and thrown liquids as you can get, but the right acts can get the different halls jumping. The first 5 of those gigs above were there. And we have yet to see a poor gig there. The sound is always spot on. It was particularly pleasing to see Baloji - a musician from Democratic Republic of Congo who lives in Belgium and sings in French in the smaller hall there while Nigel Farage was doing something far less entertaining and useful in the big hall.
I also love City Hall for a more down and dirty gig, but they host more comedy, tribute and old time acts these days.

Dislike the Arena - huge soulless shed with wonky sound. But the kind of acts that play there now are not really on our radar.

Used to love The Odeon in Brum, saw Metallica/Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Killing Joke, Gary Moore, Slayer, Magnum there. Edwards No.8 was superb too, lots of local bands like Wolfsbane played there, but some up & coming American names like Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots played too.

Now I like The Mill in Brum, The Muni in Pontypridd & The Globe in Cardiff

When I was a regular gig-goer it was anywhere in London really, in recent years it's concentrated more around Sub89 in Reading, which in truth it opened about 25 years too late for me :-)

Miles Kane was not too loud. Great gig. Really enjoyed the warm up acts too.

However, HUGE amount of dickheads present including various groups of people smoking that the venue did nothing about (02 Brixton so not a dive tiny place). Chucking beer is also not my idea of a fun night, luckily I had put my work stuff in the cloakroom! At £30 each plus fees I would defo see him again, but probably go for seated upstairs away from the idiots. Shame as I always prefer to be in the crowd.

Scribbler - I use www.setlist.com to keep a list of gigs I've attended.

I'd also recommend to anyone who isn't using it already the fabulous ents24 website. You can track bands and you can track venues, which means you'll get an email every time your band(s) announces a new gig and and an email every time your venue(s) announces a new act. You can also use the site to book tickets, but you don't have to.

Still hoping to see Halsey next year and Rae Morris and I'd like to see Tom Odell if not too pricey.

Being London ish we are usually okay for venues but I prefer roundhouse, Hammersmith and scala to the o2 as smaller but also easier to get back from.

To HP on the prev page - you've made me realise I'm a bit of a whiner about having to get back from gigs in London or Brighton - I should be grateful I live on the doorstep of a lot of great venues.

Except the Brighton Centre which has the worst acoustics. It's like listening to a band with your head in a bucket of mud.

Looks like we cover a number of years of the Reading Festival between us Goofee.

Growing up in Reading I first went between 1973 (Faces/Status Quo) and 1980 (Rory Gallagher/Whitesnake). First year I felt very young, last year I felt very old!

Then I and friends went back (now with our kids) between 2006 (Franz Ferdinand/Kaiser Chiefs) and 2012 (Kasabian/Florence + The Machine) and were surprised to find others of our age were there too!

Well if you are in Brighton, check out the Green Door Store for a gig. Underneath Brighton Station, has cobbled floors.
Can't say anyone too famous plays, but Steve "Interesting" Davis, World Champ snooker player, did a DJ set there a few weeks ago.
