Mine might be over optimistic about paces, but as for the colours/status it has been quite reasonable lately

HRV still Low, training status Strained, and my watch suggests 59min with 10 x 40s at 6.25mm.

BB charged to 67 with nearly 7 hrs sleep, hrv balanced, rhr 40

apparently I am "well-rested and ready for action"

Therefore today I should rest.

Comparing my steps this year with 2023 and am perplexed.

2023 - 2,787,660 steps - 3,481.79 km
2024 - 3,622,297 steps - 3,098.42 km

So a 29% increase in steps but only 88% of the distance covered?????

I changed watches in August of 2023 going from a Forerunner 35 to a Forerunner 55 but presumably the default stride length would be the same. The only other difference is that in the first half of 2023 I wasn't running due to injury but walking instead.

Any explanations for the disparity?

Did you give a stride length at all?

Still unproductive

Garmin suggested rest again and I ignored it again.
My training load is at the high end of optimal for improving my fitness!
But I’m above targets … my load focus is higher than optimal. I may want to try scaling back the duration and frequency of workouts!

I really have confused the poor watch!

Can't get head around that there's a difference btwn running and walking stride length, but shorter strides is more steps for same distance not fewer.
maybe the new watch is better at counting? I know my old watch would give me lots of steps if I was driving, but this one doesn't seem to find many to add.

Changed training suggestion parameter from pace to hr and watch gave me a 30 min 'base' run to do. Scored 81% compliance, happy with that as it moans -too low- for the first 10 mins. To keep it happy I'd have to record a separate warm up run which I CBA to do, I did stretch the run to 40 mins though.

I'm wondering if the difference is accounted for by one device recording more things that aren't steps as steps than the other.

@EvilPixie Just used the relevant device's default stride length. I had assumed that with Garmin knowing my height it would use that to calculate a reasonably representative stride length. The Garmin Connect app is presumably using a common value irrespective of device being used.

@Rosehip It gets even weirder if you look at the training distances logged. I've done about one third more distance in walks and runs in 2024 than I did in 2023. Completely at odds with the step/distance totals I gave earlier. That implies I did lots of non training steps in 2023 that were really really long strides. Just nonsense really.

@Raptors claws are coming to town I think you may have hit the nail on the head.

Incidentally the Health app on my iPhone shows a more consistent history.

Steps: 2023 - 8672 per day 2024 9819 per day
Distance: 2023 - 7.9 km/day 2024 10.3 km/day

it must have been counting something else as steps - my old 735 used to think changing gear in the car was several steps.
Supporting at Fetchpoint an clapping all day would get my 10K steps done - and more.
The fenix 7 is a lot more fussy about what it calls steps.

About This Thread

Maintained by EvilPixie
According to my Garmin this morning my body battery was at just 41 and I was "strained"
I have been strained for most days in the last 2 weeks
My body battery has also been low

So today it suggested a threshold run of up to an hour!

What's your Garmin say?
