Strangely, mine seems optimistic but not by too much and I'd wager that it's more accurate as the distance increases.

Rosehip wrote: an odd one Sometimes, but not often, when out on a run my phone will suddenly tell me my pace at the end of a mile Last week when I was trying to follow a route it decided to speak the turns out loud. When I go into settings on Garmin connect, they are all turned off at the bottom it says voice - female , but when it speaks it's a male voice Can anyone tell me what else I need to turn off? (I will have bluetooth off on the watch during the L50 so it shouldn't happen then) Navigation announcements via the phone are a very new feature and it is lacking polish to say the least. Turning them off doesn't seem to be possible (clearly a bug, and one that Garmin are aware of), and you're not the only one hearing them ignoring the voice settings (possibly because not all the language options have been rolled out yet). I actually quite like it as I tend to be listening to audiobooks when I'm on runs long enough to want navigation, so it only goes through my headset and doesn't tell everyone in earshot where I'm going. (Round here the locals would just use that as a helpful cue to get even more in the way than normal). |

Also Garmin splits your load between low aerobic, high aerobic and anaerobic so would expect that to feed in. For my calculation it seems a simple case of VO2 Max being too low for what Garmin expects as the old calculator worked pretty decently for me (would predict 16:06 currently). |

Navigation announcements via the phone are a very new feature Although it has been available on Garmin cycle computers since at least 2015. I can remember riding audaxes that year with more than one rider who had an earpiece which spoke the turns to them (via a phone synced to a headunit). |

So, @Badger since I don't listen to anything and force closing Garmin connect didn't shut it up (!) I assume turning bluetooth off on watch will? OTOH, in the middle of the night there are some points where a voice telling me where to go might actually be quite useful! |

My current predictions are 5k: 24.03, 10k: 50:43, half: 1.53.02, marathon: 4.12.13. I reckon those are decent estimates (the half may be a bit stretchy) and the 5k and 10k are within seconds of what I've actually done recently.

Race paces - mine aren't as silly optimistic at the moment as they have been - given a tail wind a day without niggles and lots of sugar I reckon the shorter distances are just about doable. Not sure about marathon though, maybe but I don't intend to find out! The 1yr graphs looks like the predictions are the same as this time last year - which has surprised and pleased me, I don't feel so very far behind now - so thank you for making me look |

@Rosehip Yes indeed - it is actually the only way to shut it up completely at the moment.

My current 5k prediction is 18:12 vs what the old predictor would say of 16:06. Ran 16:34 a couple of weeks ago and hopefully will be faster in a couple of weeks time. 1:25:22 for HM which would be around what it showed when I ran my half last year.

Beta 18.09 on the Fenix 7 series has an updated race predictor. Looks a bit optimistic for me; 22.07 5km I would probably miss by 20 seconds or so absolutely eyeballs out, 46:34 for 10k more like 2 minutes; 1:44 for half is close to what I ran late last year but can't get near this year so far; 3:47 for full is around ten minutes faster than my PB and I very much doubt I could do that currently.
