That’s why I was wondering if it was a “keep training and you could …” time!

Velociraptor
Mine tend to be just slightly optimistic now, and a lot less wild than they used to be.

Broadly it is a measurement of you, today, without really incorporating the context of what your training load has been for the last x weeks, what specificity you've done to achieve the times etc.

Must admit I never pay them any attention!

I've just taken a look at mine - they're all significantly quicker than my PBs at each distance.
All of which were run between October 2019 and March 2020 - right before I got covid.
I'll never get anywhere near any of those again.

My race predictor on Garmin are crazy!

5k Half
22:43 1:53:31

10k Marathon
48:07 4:30:48

I don't know how these figures are calculated but I'm not even close to those!

Marathon - 4:30:48

That's true of the new predictor that takes training load into account. It's just a very cookie cutter formula which will mean it expects two people with the same VO2 Max that have done the same training to run the same time. Even assuming that the VO2 Max is correct, that might not be true.

For me it's not very good at what it's supposed to do and is too slow.

Sorry, that's not true of the new predictor.

Ah, ok - do we "know" how much that is played into things? Or is it just a volume / load measurement?
