I hope those buttons come back, because I never knew they existed until now. How come I’d never seen them before?

I've still got those options in my Garmin Connect.

GCM changes quite a lot so sounds like different people are on different revisions. I think the latest version is 4.54.1 from 2 weeks ago (iOS) but sometimes the Android version is out of sync.

I'm on 4:54.1 and my intervals from last Thursday look like this (yes, v. useful, they're also available in the www version using the 'Step type' dropdown menu):

I won't have a chance to test it tonight though, as I'm doing track intervals with manual lap button presses.

I don't think it's the GCM version. I see what I think Kierin is describing: my most recent intervals session (6x on version 21.00) doesn't show the split types and doesn't show the filter buttons, but does show an overlay on the pace graph of what the pace targets were. Older sessions (up to version 20.50) do show the split types and do show the filter buttons, don't have the overlay. This is also true on the Garmin Connect website. I like the pace target overlay but don't appreciate losing the filter buttons.
Intrigued whether it is a change in the files the watch generates or a change in the way Connect treats them centrally.

I guess you could interrogate the .fit file and see if it is missing / lacking some info from those sessions.

My watch won't have been updated at all as it's a 645 so if it is a change to the way .fit files are created then I should be unaffected.

I'd have thought fitfileviewer.com would be sufficient to show what is different about the interval sections.

Badger, yes. I'm also on android connect version 4.54.1

The graph page that show pace & heart rate etc, does have the interval overlay boxes. Just not the filter by type on the screenshot.

I have a garmin 245, which updated yesterday to version 9.60 (which adds a time spent walking / idle chart).

It's not a huge problem for me. I know from last lap at the time what I ran on the track and dont really care past that but it is a nice view to have. Maybe I just need to restart my watch
