As others have said, make the Route in Garmin Connect (on the web) then sync to device. You can add in POIs by just clicking of the route I believe then you can add custom text which appears at that point in the run.

Thanks will give it a try.
When it’s on the device, do you start the run activity and it’s on the map, or do you have to choose the route and start it somehow?

On the device, select your activity type, and then press ‘Up’ on the device. Choose ‘Courses’ and select the route you want to do. Select ‘Do Course’, and then start the activity as normal. You can scroll through the usual screens on the watch if you don’t always want the map displayed.

It’s press and hold up to get the menu with courses in it.

Too late for me to help, but the idea has been described to you, I think. You can plot the route anywhere you want, so long as you can get it to GC and then sync with device. I use the app for the final step.

For the last couple of months I have been plotting routes on Fetch and sending them to GC as a gpx file, then syncing. This is to allow me to plot a route for the Fetchpoint game, for which I need to see the various symbols used by the game and pass by them on my run. In the last couple of weeks this has been to an Epix, which is functionally the same as yours.

Thanks chunky!
Ok Steve, sounds great. Will try it out.
I’m kind of interested of using the watch instead of my phone when I’m navigating. Will probably work better than stopping now and then trying to get my bearings :)

Shouldn't be a problem. I have run several multi-day holidays like that, e.g, coast to coast in England, Bowman 🇸🇪. The Fenix 5 used to lock up occasionally with very long routes based on other people's track data, but I hope this is now resolved with the extra memory of the 7 series. Also, the F5 could only store 50 turn-by-turn alerts per route. To be safe, I would choose to make long routes in pieces.

Bowman, for me, the better map interaction with the touch screen on the F7 looks really good, and for how I use the device looks to be the biggest upgrade for me. I would be interested to read about how you find using it. On the F6, zooming/panning is a bit tricky.
