Bit of a struggle this morning. Late getting to the pool, felt like a bit of a zombie, decided to just plod through it and get a minimum mile done.

Can't count because I did 1800m in the end but it was slow and it was hard work but it's done.

Also got a badge for Checkpoint 4 of the 2023 challenge. :-0

Did my first OW swim of the year this evening.

Water was 16.1c.

Usually I wouldn't wetsuit at that but ive not been in over the winter. Found it tight and restrictive but it probably did mean I stayed in longer
Was good to be back in open water. It was a beautiful warm evening so was surprised it was as quiet as it was.

Badge question......

Those if you that have the Eric the Eel badge,(100m in 1.52 or less) does it have to be a separately logged swim of just that distance.

I have done several swims now where I've had a few 100m swims sub1.52 but no badge has appeared.

You need a single swim of 100m.

I have never done an OWS (apart from in the sea on holiday!) Its cold enough in the pool, let alone the murkiness of OW!

I am open to try it as see lots or people love it. What does it bring that pool swimming doesnt!?

Oh blimey - where to start.

Peace, calm, like-minded people, nature, nature sounds, lack of pressure (but you can do full-on training if you want to). Water that is not full of chlorine. Changing on the side of a lake with a cup of tea and a slice of cake. Woolly hats. Chance to buy more kit.

Freedom, the great outdoors, beautiful surroundings and an absence of chlorine. Fear when you swim off a cliff and can't see the bottom let alone touch it :-)

For me, a wetsuit made all the difference, I wouldn't dare without the safety net of the extra flotation it brings, and I'd probably get hypothermia if I tried. But I used to be a really crap swimmer.
