Another 2k ticked off this morning and I'm past Kytra Lock (Checkpoint 6). Also, after a conversation on here a few pages back, I tucked a single 100m in to the middle of the swim and got my Eric The Eel badge, so thanks to whoever it was mentioned that. I didn't even know it was a thing. Also also when you see all the mocking of Eric that took place, I bet there are very few people in the general population, either UK or worldwide, who could do a 100m in better than 1:52. In the pool I use I from the people I see swimming regularly I'd say maybe I there are a dozen people who could do it. It's a long way from worldclass but it's not an easy pace for many. It made me really think about the difference between the weekend warriors and the decent international/professional athletes, and then the gulf between them and the truly world class. I guess that applies in any sport but the difference between Eric, the rest of the field, and Phelps really makes it clear. |

And I bet you're quicker than most of the regulars where you swim, LindsD, and almost everyone who doesn't swim regularly. Eric was a decent swimmer. I wonder if he stuck with it and got any coaching after the Sydney games because he wasn't great technically and still did a 1:52. I wonder what he could have done with some help? |

Exactly. I am generally one of the quickest in the pool, certainly amongst the women. And there's a huge percentage of people who don't swim at all. Good point. |

It was me Nellers. I know I've got it in me. Going to try and remember to throw in a separate 100m on Friday. |

I just googled him. After the games and with all the celebrity and interest about him it seems he did get some coaching. By the 2004 Olympics he had a PB for the hundred of 56.9, which is definitely international standard but he wasn't able to compete because of a visa cock up. He's now the swim coach for Equatorial Guinea. |
