I decluttered a cupboard today and ended up taking a shopping bag of out of date medication to the chemist.

Hey declutterers šŸ™‚. Iā€™ve seen myself as a minimalist for a few years now. It was something that came alongside training to be a psychotherapist - kind of like clearing out physical stuff as well as clearing out my mind. I said right from the beginning that Iā€™d absolutely love to work with hoarding but the training is so all consuming itā€™s not something I did anything about. Now (almost) all of my training is completed Iā€™ve been wondering about my ā€œnicheā€ and Iā€™ve come back to thinking about helping people with physical clutter. I did a bit of research and found that APDO offer short courses in setting up as a professional declutterer and Iā€™m sorely tempted to sign up!

I dropped into this thread last night during an hour of insomnia and was surprised to find a discussion about this very thing. Itā€™s good to hear that there is demand for this! At the moment Iā€™m a little unsure of how my Psychotherapist skills would come alongside the decluttering but that will come Iā€™m sure. Itā€™s a really clear pathway as a psychotherapist- I see someone for 50 minute once a week and we agreemgoals together. Iā€™m not sure what the offer would be to decluttering clients in terms of time, frequency and figuring out whatā€™s achievable in that time. Lots to think about and learn!

Anyway, I wanted to drop by and say hi and also thanks for flying the decluttering flag - itā€™s helped me see that this could be something helpful to do!

Columba
Bruv has taken away a few more of his things (from my house to his flat).

Meanwhile my own mess mounts up gradually but inexorably.

I think the crossover skills would be huge, a declutterer basically needs to be an organised psychologist.

I'm a disorganised psychologist. Disorganised, retired, and anyway the wrong sort of psychologist.

".... This month, each of you must get rid of one thing on the first day. On the second, two things. Three items on the third. So forth, and so on. Anything can go! Clothes, furniture, electronics, tools, decorations, etc. Donate, sell, or trash. Whatever you do, each material possession must be out of your houseā€”and out of your lifeā€”by midnight each day."
