oo Goldfinch? They sound fancy...
I do need a book.
I have a hanging feeder outside the dinning room window (My current office) and I think I have just seen a baby blue tit, I only think it was a baby because I think a sparrow came and landed on the feeder next to it and it looked HUGE! I'm not quick enough with my camera, but I must try harder.

In true bird-naming tradition the gold that the the goldfinch gets its name from is actually a very small feature. The red face is far more prominent. They are lovely little birds though!

Welcome Em. I'm also a relative newby and I have learnt so much from the knowledgeable types in here. I've ended up in the RSPB and have the Collins and RSPB guides as my main go to books.
Anyway, today's run, three separate swift sightings including my first "screaming" swifts probably with joy at the cloud of insects running with me.

Probably the most numerous & social birds at feeders. But I suspect you need to invest in nyger seeds if you want to get them

um, our goldfinches much prefer sunflower hearts to niger seeds. Sunflower hearts seem to be the favourite of pretty well every bird species which visit our garden. Peanuts are popular with the tits, but I suspect that's largely because the feeder is much less crowded than the sunflower ones, so less chance of coming into conflict with the bigger birds (although the peanuts are also popular with jays, who absolutely wolf them down - I would say 80% of the peanuts are eaten by jays and grey squirrels).
