It's DDD - double dipper day. Two of the little beauties on my run in to work this morning. Along with a heron and a number of goosander (mainly boys) plus the usual passerines, ducks and geese. Apparently there's a local black restart, which if I have an hour spare at the weekend...

The area round the old Withins pub where the first checkpoint is on the YORM is noted for black red. Any day with dippers is a good day

Long tailed tits in the garden. Saw some fieldfares earlier too. |

Otter in Thames at Goring this afternoon. (Yes, not a bird, I know). Also bats flying round. Very late in the year for them, isn't it?

I had a real close encounter with one a few weeks ago. I was up on Gummer’s How, close to but well above Windermere and one just walked across the path in the front of me. I was obviously very shocked but it still hung around long enough for me to get my phone out and take a 45s video! |

@Windsor Wool , yes. Niece had just shown me a photo of an otter she had taken recently there, and moments later we saw one diving in from a wooden boardwalk by the river in a very flooded area, very close to where the photo had been taken.

Red throated diver on the canal just outside Hebden Bridge today. Lovely bird if a little out of place! |

Very cute that. I'm terrible at water bird identification. Sparrow hawk in the garden briefly today before a cat appeared and scared everything off 😂 |
