A parakeet in Billingham today. Felt exciting seeing so vibrant though I have seen before in other parts of Teesside, though always feels a bit wrong.

I have been told that there are parakeets beside Waterworks parkrun in Belfast. Rumoured to have nested this year, but I need to caveat that this is very mus hearsay. I would imagine of they are there efforts will be made to get them removed before they establish themselves.

Yes that’s what I said when I saw it, whether there is or ought to be efforts to reduce their numbers. Certainly their population sizes and groups seem to extend quickly. Even though it’s the first time I’ve seen one in Billingham given a couple or local established populations it didn’t surprise me.

There were parakeets in my local park on Saturday, the second time I've heard them there. The odd thing is that there has been a population of them in some poplars in a marsh on the edge of the city, no more than a couple of miles away, for many years now and I assumed when I first saw them that they would spread quickly, but they've largely stayed put.
