The Golden Rule and The Unicorn Inn are decent little pubs for ale. The Lily Bar is a bit 'trendy' but the quiz is fun and they have a good selection of whisky.

DT, I did that, and fell in a bog up to my waist between High Pike and Low Pike.

When I got back to Ambleside I looked like a refugee :-)

In fact (aside from falling in the bog) I've got to do that round again.

I got myself in a muddle on Hart Crag a couple of years ago. Was going clockwise and most of the round was in low cloud. After a little uncertainty leaving Fairfield I then headed for Hart Crag but the trail disappeared on the approach. Did a couple of loops as I didn't believe my compass then subsequently slipped and smashed the compass. Had to resort to map on phone to ensure I was heading south. A humbling experience to say the least. Need to go back and do the round to see the views I missed out on.

Stonethwaite campsite has got so fed up with the behaviour of "lockdown freedon frenzy" campers that they've decided to close for a while.

Must have been some awful behaviour to make that decision.

Worryingly easy to flip a compass. Stuck mine in a rucksack pocket with a spring bar which turned out to be magnetic enough to flip it on my last trip. Fortunately did not need it and was always well enough oriented to realise what I’d done.

Oh yes - very good gulas - though not as good as MiL's (or mine ;) )
