RH I seem to recall reading something recently about there being lots of issues at Seathwaite with folk camping where they felt like it and then just using the campsite facilities for free. Attempts to a) move people on from camping randomly in any old field and b) stop none site users using the facilities had been met with abuse and threats. I guess that behaviour has been combined with general anti-social behaviour and they've just had enough (and who can blame them). I think if I was them I would also be doing some tactical muck spreading to deter random campers, particularly with a BH on the horizon!

They don't take bookings, so were having issues with huge groups turning up separately and then forming on-site - which is against government guidance right now apart from being an anti-social nightmare.
not to mention litter, discarded equipment and noise all night.

WTF is wrong with people?

I also saw their announcement on social media, a great shame - but I'm with FF, who can blame them? Borrowdale has been hammered by this sort of thing, it's tragic really.

Don't blame them at all! it's just so sad for their business that they had to do it.

Even Conde Nast’s Traveller has a ‘Wild Camping’ section although I scanned it and ‘wild’ for them appears to be campsite or glamping.

Son 1 - an outdoor activity centre instructor - is working towards his mountain leader qualification. As part of this he needs to show evidence of a certain number of nights spent wild camping. Difficult to do at present because of the hightened sensitivities around wild camping due to irresponsible and inappropriate wild camping. I must admit I thought things would settle down more than they have after the initial explosion when lockdown ended
