But they have been a lot busier than usual. Every weekend at the moment is like the busiest bank holiday and mid week you really notice it (even now when the schools would be on holiday). Places where you would normally encounter no one or or the odd person have been much busier everyday than usual since the first significant lifting of lockdown. But when I went to the Lakes last weekend I was quite taken a back by the sheer number of people. It was on and altogether different level to what we are experiencing at home in the Peak District.

Is it because we are used to places being deserted though? Haworth seems mega busy just now but it was a ghost town in April

I was in Swaledale over the weekend and it was clearly busy in places, but not overwhelmingly so.

Probably DT. And I guess the problem is mine. I visit those places because they are quiet and when they are busy they lose their attraction to me. Though in the Lakes (and in the likes of Cornwall) I think there is also the issue that the numbers are currently in danger of simply being greater than the areas can sensibly take. The infrastructure is getting to breaking point. In the Lakes last weekend for the first time ever I could envisage the day when you would need to buy a pass to enter the national park and those tickets would be limited in number....

When travel to magaluf is allowed again, it'll all quieten down completely.
Anyone know what the campsite situations are like up in the north Pennines? (E.g near MiT or that kind of area). Alternatively I might venture further north towards Northumberland and cheviots

I went to Yosemite around the time of the millennium and the valley then was much more heavily controlled than any UK National Parks that I know of now

Keswick was super busy on warm days. The socially distant queue for the Keswickian was past the Moot Hall Friday and Saturday night apparently.
The Dog and Gun was already booked out all week. Squeezed in for a pint on the way back from a walk.
After my BIL left, the next family commented 'you get a lot more for your money in Spain'. I hope next year is more normal, which I imagine for a lot of full time Lakes residents is still shit.

Despite missing the big hills, we're staying around home for the foreseeable future. I love the Lakes & Snowdonia, but a big part of that is the solitude, scenery, and general escape they provide. All I've heard, and what's been said on here, suggests none of that will be available at the moment.
And yes, I appreciate how lucky we are to have moors on doorstep, and that for those stuck in urban environments there's fewer options for escape. However it seems a large number aren't going for the fells, but to replicate their usual behaviour abroad somewhere in the UK. It makes it far easier to understand why foreigners regard British (along with Russian) tourists as an unwelcome but necessary evil.

I've just realised that the start of the campsite pitch I've booked is the Bank holiday Sunday (I've changed the booking twice, it was originally for May) I thought I'd booked from the Tuesday that week - damn!
