It’s pretty cold here tonight. In other years the heating would be on. Instead I have donned a hoodie.

I am resisting too. Food in the oven, the cooling oven can warm the house. |

Mr Ness and I have fixed tarrif until April next year but we're holding off using the central heating system as much as possible to get used to it. Fortunately the house is very well insulated.

I am resisting too. Reminds me of staying at a friend's flat in the Midlands in the 80s: in cooler months, he left the oven on at a low setting during the night to keep it warm! |

Our microwave is hardly used but using power as it has a small clock display on Problem is to turn off at the plug you have to move the microwave I guess it’s not using much energy but it’s still wasted Anyone know of a way to turn the plug off easily? Would a short extension that has an on off work |

You could fit a smart plug which can be activated remotely. But the cost may exceed the savings...I have one on an electric heater in our home office that is programmed to switch off every evening in case it's been left on by accident. But that's potentially 2kW of savings, all night or even for several days...

I doubt the microwave clock would use much energy.

Something like this would let you profile most of your appliances: amzn.to |
