On the "when I were a lad we had ice on inside of t'windows and it never did us any 'arm" track...
When I were a nipper we had one coal fire in the living room which were lit every morning and that were it. I do actually wonder how we managed to live for 6 months of the year when only one room of a (probably) very poorly insulated house was warm. I definitely remember the outside lavvy was only to be hazarded when there was nothing else for it. I can't say I recall it was right fun even then, when everyone else was in the same boat. Being cold all the time isn't fun.
Mr Ness and I are leaving the heating off as long as possible to acclimatise to when the cost goes up next spring. At least if it does go very cold we won't have to worry too much over the winter.
As a child we lived in a few places with ice on the inside of the windows etc. No heating in bedrooms or bathroom.
But as I get older I need to be warm, being cold makes me so miserable (and bad tempered) and I'm not going to go without my heating. Fortunately I can budget to pay for it.
My dad really feels the cold, so tomorrow i am going to lay an additional layer of already delivered insulation in his loft, thankfully he can afford to keep the heating cranked up, but i'm not sure he'd turn it down even if he couldn't
I lived without central heating for years in my first flat. I have bought some additional blankets and will be keeping the heat on frost free when I do eventually put it on. Think I may need to invest in some bed socks though.
No central heating from 2007-12, including the very cold winter of 2010-11 I think it was. Not pleasant.
This winter will be a team effort of long johns, thermal slippers and blankets. I expect I’ll sleep a lot too. Downstairs is unfortunately rather open plan so it’s a big space to heat and the radiator is a long way from where I sit. It may be easier to not bother heating the room at all and just cocoon myself.
